Fastest away, they went straight to the front and never saw another rival, crossing the line comfortably clear of their closest opponent.

Jara said: “I was keen to get on with things as we know he stays further and he broke so well, getting to the lead was not a problem.

“He has won that in good style.”

It was something of a case of deja vu, at least concerning the jockey who, 30 minutes earlier had employed identical tactics aboard AF Ssayeb, trained by Musabah Al Muhairi, in a 1,2000m handicap.

Jara said: “It was only his third career start and he has now won two, both over 1,200m but on dirt as well as turf. There could be more to come next season.”

Harry Bentley was another jockey in double form, initiating his brace with the staying on victory of Madjanthis in a 1,400m handicap for Ernst Oertel.

He completed a double aboard Haizoom, winner of the following 1,600m conditions race which was restricted to fillies and mares.

She is trained by Nacer Samiri for Sheikh Mansour, as is Da’Areen, successful in the following 1,600m handicap under Royston Ffrench.

The race was delayed for about 30 minutes after Gerald Avranche was injured in a nasty paddock incident and hospitalised.

Pat Buckley, clerk of the course among his many roles, reported the Frenchman to be “in good spirits and hoping to be discharged soon having a couple of hairline fractures to his hip”.

The meeting opened with a 1,400m maiden and Sam Hitchcott produced Bushrah Al Reef to lead close to home for trainer Abdallah Al Hammadi.
