Mark Cavendish helped Etixx-QuickStep team-mate Fernando Gaviria to victory on stage four of the Tour of Britain on Wednesday.

The Manxman guided the Colombian in the finale of the finish of the 217-kilometres route from Edinburgh to Blyth and Gaviria did the rest.

Cavendish was seen celebrating in the background as his team-mate triumphed ahead of German Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal), who won four stages of July's Tour de France, and Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen (MTN-Qhubeka), who was third.

Movistar rider Juan José Lobato crossed the line in 15th, and retains the overall lead after some hard graft from Alex Dowsett who kept the Movistar six within reach until Sky and  Lotto took over in the final third.

Briton Cavendish, who was 13th, is out of contract with Belgian squad Etixx-QuickStep at the end of this year and his friend Sir Bradley Wiggins this week said the Manxman was moving teams.

MTN-Qhubeka has been strongly linked with Cavendish, but the Manxman would have to find a title sponsor to support the African squad if it were to sign him.
