The Dubai Gran Fondo is the third event on this year’s UCI World Cycling Tour, a series of events held around the world where amateurs can compete in road races.

The tour consists of 13 UCI-sanctioned races which also serve as qualifying events for the UCI World Amateur Championships in Denmark in September.

The Dubai event will take place on Friday March 20 at the Al Qudra Cycle Park, and has attracted competitors from across the region as well as internationally.

Registrations were open to male and female categories in 8 different age groups, between the ages of 19 and over 65 years.

“We are very pleased with the response we have had from the amateur cycling community in the region and it is clear that amateur cycling is now popular amongst all age groups”, said Donal Kilalea of the organisers Promoseven Sports Marketing.

“This is the first amateur UCI World Cycling Tour event in the Middle East and credit to the Dubai Sports Council and the UAE Cycling Federation for supporting this event”.

The event will consist of a 125km road race that will start and finish at the purpose built Dubai Cycling Course at Al Qudra.

Full details of road closures can be found on the event website www.dubaigranfondo.com

The competition is divided into age group categories, and the top 25% of finishers in each age group will qualify for the World Championships.
