The Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival came to an end on Saturday with more than 1,500 participants, from the age of 4 to 17, from 39 countries testing their mettle at the IPIC Arena in Zayed Sports City.

While the majority of players were from the UAE, there were representatives from GCC countries, Russia, USA and France, among others. The festival focused on encouraging young players to take up the sport. Audience lapped up the action and also got a chance to enjoy three Iftah ya Semsem shows, a K-9 show presented by Abu Dhabi Police and other activities from the sponsors.

Fans of the sport can look forward to the start of the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship which kicks-off on Sunday, followed by the big show – the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship from April 19 to 23.

Commenting on the festival, Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, vice chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support. We’re proud to be well underway with what is sure to be 10 thrilling days of action on and off the mat.”
