Mahra and UAE Polo won their respective matches on the second day of action at the Julius Baer Gold Cup, which is being played at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club.

Mahra defeated Wolves by 11 goals to six in a match in which they never trailed, while HH Sheikha Maitha’s UAE Polo got the better of Ghantoot by 11 goals to seven after the two teams were locked at four goals each mid-way through the match.

In the first match of the day, Mahra Polo Team, which included Alejandro Novillo Astrada, played at a great level. They were 3-1 up by the end of the first chukker and increased that advantage to three goals by the end of the fourth at 9-6.

The Wolves team fought hard but they had no answers to Novillo Astrada’s brilliance, as he scored eight goals for his team. He was obviously the top scorer of the match and named the Most Valuable Player.

In the second match, it was a very important win for UAE Polo against the powerful Ghantoot team.

UAE Polo played one of their best matches of the season showing great team work with Jack Hyde scoring goals with every chance he got. Hyde scored five goals, while Bautista Bayugar scored all seven goals for Ghantoot to become the top scorer of the game.

The Julius Baer Gold Cup will continue tomorrow with another double action day at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. Starting at 2pm, Zedan will play against Edrees Polo, followed by Bin Drai Polo’s match against Abu Dhabi Polo.
