MMA: Karl Amoussou happy with his all-round game after submission victory

Karl Amoussou scored possibly the most impressive victory of the night at Abu Dhabi Warriors, turning a losing situation against accomplished wrestler Abdulmajid Magomedov into a brilliant victory.

– Guedjev: MMA has found a home in Abu Dhabi
– AD Warriors: Buentello triumphs over Sokoudjou

– Fight Club: Joshua is a champion in waiting

Russian Magomedov started the fight well against the jiu-jitsu/judo specialist, smothering Amoussou with his slick grappling style and forcing the fight to the floor.

The Russian knew he was immediately in trouble, however, when Amoussou turned him onto his back from a defensive stance and Magomedov submitted instantly, giving the Frenchman his 20th career victory and 12th via submission.

“It’s my 20th win and 12th by submission, so that’s my strength I guess,” said Amoussou, who inflicted just a second ever defeat on his opponent.

“But I think I’m an accomplished all-round fighter. My striking is good and I have worked hard on my weaknesses. I would like to knock the next opponent out but I don’t know who it is going to be. I’m always going for the finish.”

Making his debut for the Abu Dhabi Warriors at the IPIC Arena last night, Amoussou was impressed by the organisation, as well as with his surroundings. He certainly enjoyed his first visit to the UAE although it might not be his last as he insists he’ll be back again.

“It was amazing being here,” said the 29-year-old. “I was really looking forward to coming here and I was very impressed by it and the stage.

“The organisation was great, we were treated very well and it was an honour to fight here. It was such a different culture for me and interesting for me to travel to different countries. I felt really at peace here. I loved it and I hope the crowd loved the fight too.”
