Mayweather: Fans can decide if I fight Khan or Maidana

Floyd Mayweather has asked boxing fans to vote on whether he should fight Amir Khan next or Marcos Maidana.

Khan signed a contract in December that put him in line for a possible super-fight with Mayweather this year, but the Briton is still waiting to find out if he will face the unbeaten world light-middleweight champion.

A May showdown in Las Vegas has been mooted as a possibility, but the British fighter is not the only contender for Mayweather, with Argentinian Maidana also an option for the 36-year-old American.

And pound-for-pound world number one Mayweather has sought the opinion of fans as to which of the two he should take on, writing on his Twitter account: "I'm going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?"

Khan, a former world champion and 2004 Olympic silver medallist, has been holding out for a lucrative clash with Mayweather since suffering a scare in his last fight – a dramatic points victory over Julio Diaz – in Sheffield last April.

The 27-year-old was in Dubai last month and told Sport360° who explained why he felt he deserved a shot at Mayweather, rathan than Maidana.

“Why is Floyd always fighting one style of fighter? People want to see him in an explosive fight; people want to see him come up against someone with speed, movement, and agility," said Khan.

“I know that I would bring more money to the table than someone like Maidana. I know that if I fight Floyd he will get paid a lot more than if he fought Maidana."

Bolton's Khan has a 28-3 record as a professional and defeated Maidana back in 2011 in what was later recognised as the fight of the year.
