More than 900 runners participated in Friday’s road race that was held in eight different categories, building upon last year’s total of nearly 600 competitors.

The race was flagged off near the Falcon Heritage Centre in Meydan and finished at the NAS Sports Complex.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), this year’s tournament is being held in six different sports disciplines including futsal, volleyball, a 10km road run, a 70km cycling race, wheelchair basketball and archery.

On Friday, Sheikh Hamdan increased the prize money for the 10k road race to Dh 2million from its initial total of Dh 1.67m.

The total amount for the entire NAS Ramadan Sports Tournament has now gone up to more than Dh8m.
