Olympians join tomorrow’s stars in Ultimate Athletics race night

Team GB athletes joined athletes from across the region to participate in the latest Ultimate Athletics track and field event held at Dubai International Academy.

The highlight of the night was two-time Olympian Margeret Adeoye showing the young ladies how it’s done by running an impressive 11.70 second 100m and 23.57 second 200m.

Other outstanding performances including those from Italian champion Antonio Infantino who won the Ultimate 60m beating Reps PT of the year Dannish Walker-Khan and Daniel Offiah from the Linford Christie squad, who is currently in Dubai for the camp.

Ultimate Athletes took the vast haul of medals in the U15 and U17 events with outstanding performances from Greta Schmedes (15) in the 60m hurdles, the youngster has been practicing under the guidance of Team GB masters athlete Andy Clements and is showing great potential.

Tarebi Odubo (14)  had a fantastic evening winning the U15 100m in 11.76 seconds, the high jump with 1.60m and took home silver in the 200m just behind fellow UA Athlete Namar Younis.

Endurance Athlete Oliver Demain (15) was very impressive in the U17 1500m, winning in just over four minutes (4.16)  just outside his personal best. Demain is off a recent winning streak at the Supers Sports Meydan 5k runs, where he has won fastest overall male several times with a P.B of 16.14.

Winners: Events included 100m, 200m, long jump and shot put

Fans were treated to a great line up in the 3000m with many of the UAE’s finest athletes taking part with the winner from from Shabab Al Ahli club, Khaleifa Mohamed Alnuaimi winning in 8.49 seconds. Gerda Steyn the 2019 Comrades Champion won the female race in 9.22 seconds.

An all-round athlete with a great future ahead in the sport is Jasmine Crawley (14)  She picked up three gold medals  in the 200m (27.12 seconds), long jump 4.38m and shot put 9m and a silver in the 400m. Jasmine trains with Ultimate Athletics four times a week and also competes in triathlons.
