It will be the second edition of the series, after hundreds took part in the first earlier this month.

Beginning and finishing at Jebel Ali Golf Resort in Dubai, the aquathlon will involve a swim before ending the event with a run within the resort.

Organisers Race ME Events have set six categories with anyone from 11-years-old and above allowed to enter.

Juniors aged 11 to 14 years of age, will swim 375m before running to the finish line over a course of 2.5km. The remaining categories are Youth (15 to 18-years-old), Open (19 to 39), Vet (40 to 49) and Super Vet (50 to 59). All consist of a 750m swim and 5km run.

All of the above are for individuals, but there is also a team category where each athlete can do a 375m swim and a 5km dash to the finish line.

Paul Venn of Race ME Events, said: “The aquathlon is less harder than the triathlon that we also organise. But even those who have plenty of experience in triathlons can still take part in this event.

“The numbers have been good so far but like all the other events that we organise, we see a big number of registrations in the days leading up to the event. I am confident we will have a good turnout for the race.”

And Venn believes this is a great chance to get a taste of the sport. He said: “There’s good reasons why it’s good for the beginners. The thought of swimming in the sea is daunting for a lot of people, particularly if you haven’t done this kind of thing before. The fact there is a much smaller field means that you will have a much easier swim because it’s not as crowded.”

“My message for those who want to give it a try is quite simple – come and do it.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re the fastest person on the day or the slowest, the aquathlon is all about getting involved, getting fit and having fun. We have people of different nationalities, ages taking part, and there is no reason why people shouldn’t be involved.”
