Nike ‘We Run Series’ comes to Dubai

The global Nike ‘We Run Series’ comes to Dubai for a 10km race and hopes to bring the region’s running community together.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the event will take place on Friday, December 19 with the race start scheduled for 07:30.

The course will run through the heart of Downtown Dubai, the lap leading around the boulevard with Burj Khalifa at the centre.

This is the second time Dubai will play host to Nike We Run. The series visits 14 cities across Europe, Latin America and Asia with distances ranging from 7km to a full marathon.

“One of our roles as the sports council is to promote sports culture in Dubai,” said Dr Ahmad Al Sharif, secretary general of Dubai Sports Council.

“We are very pleased to partner with Nike for We Run Dubai this year as it offers a fantastic opportunity for everyone in the region to include sport in their lifestyle and challenge themselves to become better athletes.”

Mohammed Baker, deputy chairman and CEO of Gulf Marketing Group, the holding group of Sun and Sand Sports, Nike’s official distributor in the Middle East, added: “We are very excited to bring back We Run Dubai, which highlights Nike’s efforts to cultivate and grow the running culture in the region.

“Nike has been enabling the running movement in the UAE for years through the brand’s latest running innovations and through the Nike+ app and the Nike+ Run Clubs.”

Runners of all levels can enhance their training leading up to the race by joining Nike+ to set goals, track performance and increase motivation.

Nike also organises Nike+ Run Clubs across Dubai three times a week: at Burj Park Downtown Dubai every Friday at 07:00, Palm Jumeirah Track every Sunday at 19:00 and Dubai International Financial Centre every Tuesday at 19:00.

Registration is open until December 6 for anyone over the age of 16.

Runners can register online at Nike We Run Dubai homepage www.nike.com/werundubai, but for those under 21, participants will to provide a waiver signed by their guardian upon race pack delivery.

The race fee is Dh100 for adults over 21 and free for all U21 runners.
