Rashed Al Dhaheri added to the UAE’s gold medal haul when he won the Under-23 1500m wheelchair race at the IWAS World Youth Championship which drew to a close in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
Al Dhaheri clocked 3:46.65 minutes after battling hard with German Korsan Vogen, who finished second with a time of 3:47.10m.
Al Dhaheri’s gold helped the UAE finish second with 15 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze. Russia were placed first with 22 gold, 14 silver, 15 bronze, while Germany was third with 12 gold, 15 silver, 7 bronze.
It was Al Dhaheri’s second individual gold after he beat Vogel a second time by over three seconds to win the 200m event in a time of 27.35s.
He picked up a third gold when he paired up with Mohammad Fahad, Yahya Al Balooshi and Bani Hashem to win the 4x100m Relay event in a time of 1:02.42m, with the Germans once again settling for second. Russia finished third.
Al Dhaheri finished the 5k event in second with a timing of 13:26.04m, 0.3secs off the pace set by winner David Scherer of Germany, with Grigory Murygin of Russia in third. Fahad and Al Balooshi completed a UAE one-two in the U-21 200m event with Evgeny Babchenko of Russia taking third.
In the U-21 discus event, Zeyad Al Harthi picked up silver with a throw of 10.16m, while Alexandr Khrupin clinched gold with a 14.81m throw. Poland’s Sebastian Matuszynski was third.
Al Balooshi won the U-20 200m event with a timing of 24.32s, with Poland’s Maciej Kesicki and Bulgarian Antoan Bojilov completing.
Salem Al Shehhi took bronze in the U-21 200m event, after Germany’s Scherer and Russian Murygin, in the Women’s U-23 shot put event, Suaad Al Hammadi finished third, behind winner Gabriela Patola and Katarzyna Slomka, both of Poland.
Earlier, Zeyad Al Harthy won gold in the U-20 Club Throw event, while Mohammad Fahad placed first in the U-20 1500m race.
Fahad and Al Balooshi took gold and silver in the U-20 100m event ahead of Babchenko, while Al Dhaheri won the corresponding event in the U-23 category.
Fahad also won the U-20 400m race, while Sara Al Senani claimed third in the U-23 Women’s Shot Put event.
