High scoring in the NBA is a regular occurence, but Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and Antawn Jamison of the Golden State Warriors took this to heart on this day 15 years ago.

The pair each scored 51 points in the Warriors’ 125-122 overtime victory, making it the first time in nearly 38 years and only the third time in the competition’s history that opposing players each scored at least 50 points in a game.

Remarkably for Jamison, it was also the second-straight game in which he scored 51 points having reached that number in December 3’s loss to Seattle.

The year was a landmark for Bryant, with it being the first of three-successive NBA championship wins for him.

1913: Japan’s love of baseball grew as Chicago White Sox beat San Francisco Giants 9-4 in an exhibition game in Tokyo.

1986: Seattle SuperSonics posted a massive 136-80 victory at Houston Rockets, with the 56-point winning margin making it the most onesided road win in NBA history.

1989: Pakistan cricket legend Javed Miandad completed a hundred against India in his 100th Test.

1997: Tore Andre Flo hit a hat-trick as Chelsea annihilated Tottenham 6-1 in the Premier League.
