Jamaican swimmer Alia Atkinson has been confirmed as one of the stars that will descend on Dubai in November to take part in the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup.

Atkinson, the reigning world short course champion in the 100m breaststroke, is currently ranked No12 in the overall standings of the World Cup series having only taken part in the second leg in France last month.

The breaststroke specialist, a regular in Dubai, has had a strong summer having won a silver and a bronze at the World Aquatics Championships in Kazan in August.

Dubai poses as the eighth and final stop of the series which will take place on November 6-7 at the iconic Hamdan Sports Complex.

It will be the fifth time the emirate hosts one of the World Cup legs.

Following opening stops in Moscow and Paris-Chartres this summer, the series – staged in short course pools – will resume in Hong Kong (September 25-26) before heading to Beijing (September 29-30), Singapore (October 3-4), Tokyo (October 28-29), Doha (November 2-3) and finally Dubai.

Katinka Hosszu, swimming’s Hungarian ‘Iron Lady’ currently leads the women’s standings after two stops while South Africa’s Cameron van der Burgh is at the top of the men’s rankings for the World Cup series.

Hosszu won the overall World Cup title last season while South African world and Olympic champion Chad Le Clos took the men’s crown.
