Shane Warne, 46 today, is credited with bringing back legspin into the game, which was thought to be extinct.

He made his debut for Australia in 1992 and picked up over 1,000 wickets in international cricket.

Although his career was plagued by scandals off the field, he still is regarded as one of the best bowlers to have graced the game and was rated among the five greatest cricketers of the 20th century in 2000.

Among his accolades are a Test hat-trick, a Man-of-the-Match award in a World Cup final, he was the first cricketer to reach 700 Test wickets and he accumulated more runs than any other Test player without making a hundred.

Warne’s ball to Mike Gatting in 1993, that bounced outside leg stump and bamboozled Gatting is unanimously pronounced as the most famous delivery in history.

1967: Michael Johnson, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, world record holder in 400m and former in 200m (48).

1971: Goran Ivanisevic, the only person to win the men’s Wimbledon title as a wildcard (44).

1973: Fabio Cannavaro, a World Cup winner with Italy and former World Player of the Year (42).

1991: Ksenia Afanasyeva, a Russian artistic gymnast and 2011 World Floor champion (24).
