The first Test between England and India four years back was a momentous occasion.

It was Test cricket’s 2000th match and the 100th Test between England and India. Sachin Tendulkar was also on the verge of his 100th hundred.

There was a lot expected from the game but England held the upper hand throughout. Kevin Pietersen hit a double ton in the absence of pace spearhead Zaheer Khan before the Indians laboured to 286 despite Rahul Dravid’s ton.

The hosts scored quick runs in the second outing and set India a target of 458. But James Anderson ripped through the line up as his five wickets sealed a comprehensive 196-run win, the first of eight straight overseas Test defeats for India
