The list goes on. A true giant of the game, the Germany legend turns 46 today and there are few like him in world football today.

Few have left such polarizing opinions among supporters. Some loved watching strikers continually halted by the enraged German.

Others point to Kahn’s sloppy play and needless aggression, and wonder if Kahn’s eccentricity was worth it. But all of them will forever remember his ferocity between the goal posts.

Kahn’s haul of individual awards demonstrates his place in football history: Best Player and Goalkeeper at the 2002 World Cup, and World Goalkeeper of the Year in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

1964: Michael Laudrup, a retired Danish football legend and current manager of Qatari club Lekhwiya (51).

1969: Cedric Pioline, former French tennis star who lost two major finals to Pete Sampras (46).

1973: Tore Andre Flo, a retired Norwegian football striker who scored 34 goals in 112 Chelsea apperances (42).

1986: James Maloney, an Australian professional rugby league for the Sydney Roosters of the NR L (29).
