The popular Dubai Desert Road Run returns for its summer edition, the Summer Scorcher, to give competitors another event in the off-season.

The heated race will be held on June 6 at 7he Sevens Stadium, which will have a traffic-free course with a wide roads for runners. Whether you want to keep up your running pace or socialise, the Summer Scorcher is a great opportunity to hit the pavement again in the final race of the 2014-15 season.

Various distances will be available for runners of all ages and abilities. 

For younger athletes, the 3 kilometre junior race is for ages six to 18, while a category for ages 14 to 20 is open in the 10k. There’s also a 3k open fun run for anyone that wants a non-competitive atmosphere.

The 10k distance for adults has categories for ages 21 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59 and 60 and above. Both the 10k and 3k will be timed, with the 10k using the latest RFID technology for chip timing. The cut-off time for runners will be one hour and 35 minutes.

All fun run finishers will be given medals, while the top three men and women in each age category of the 10k will earn trophies. 

With the race being held in the summer, water will be readily available on the course with stations approximately spaced at 1.5k, 2.5k, 3.5k, 5k, 6.5k, 7.5k, 8.5k and at the finish line.

The final day to register for the event is Monday, June 1 and the entry cost is Dh85 per person for the 10k and Dh50 for the 3k.

You can collect your race pack either at 7he Sevens from 06:15 on the day of the race, or the day before – Friday, June 5 – at Caribou Coffee in Souk Al Bahar from 09:00 to 11:00. The event will begin bright and early on the day at 06:00.
