TOP STORY

The Boston Red Sox were crowned champions of baseball’s World Series after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in game five.

The title win away at Dodger Stadium on Sunday night was Boston’s fourth in 15 seasons, while it was LA’s second straight defeat in the final playoff.

The Red Sox took the best-of-seven series 4-1.

Barcelona surged seven points clear of hapless Real Madrid with a 5-1 thrashing at the Camp Nou, but that scoreline does not tell the full story of a game which the visitors should have levelled in the second half.

The fact they didn’t probably means that Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui will be relieved of his duties, and he will be forgiven for ruefully wondering what might have been on a highly eventful afternoon.

Pakistan maintained their dominance over a hapless Australia with a 33-run victory in the third T20I in Dubai on Sunday night, to complete a 3-0 clean sweep in the series.

The hosts total of 150-5 was set up by a blistering opening stand of 93 by Babar Azam and Sahibzada Farhan, who was in for the rested Fakhar Zaman.

Australia fought back well to restrict them before Alex Carey smashed Imad Wasim for 20 off the first over for what seemed like the tourists would finally have something to celebrate.

But that was as good as it got as a mixture of accurate bowling and poor batting saw the Aussies slump to be all out for 117 off 19.1 overs with Shadab Khan the pick of the hosts bowlers with 3-19 off four overs.

FEATURE OF THE DAY

The Premier League weekend will end with a bang as Tottenham host reigning champions Manchester City on Monday night.

Much of the build-up has been dominated by concerns over the Wembley pitch, with this tie being played just one day after the NFL’s latest game at England’s national stadium, while Tottenham’s own preparedness for this fixture after an indifferent run of form is also being questioned.

Here, Aditya Devavrat looks at the other talking points ahead of the game.
