The president of the National Olympic Committee is convinced the UAE can win a rich haul of medals at the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia.

The event, which will be hosted in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2, will see a contingent of 138 athletes who will be competing across 23 individual and team events.

Football, jiu-jitsu, shooting, equestrian and athletics are just some of the disciplines the UAE are entered in. And Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the NOC is confident they can rise to the occasion.

“With Asian Games fast approaching, we pin high confidence in the ability of our sportsmen and women to represent the UAE in style worldwide. The attention of our leaders underlines the successive achievements that have pushed the UAE’s position in the global sports map,” he said.

“Our athletes always spare no effort in representing their nation in style. We pin high confidence in their abilities in competing in the Asian Games; an event that ranks next after the Olympic Games in terms of size and multiple sports. It offers a great opportunity to all athletes to deliver the best results and clinch titles while competing as part of almost 10,000 Asian athletes. We will be looking forward to seeing the name of the UAE featuring prominently in the overall ranking.”
