Hey guys, it’s David Cooper here giving you a bitesize look at what’s going on this morning in the world of sport including all the major World Cup news from Russia.

TOP STORY

Harry Kane dug England out of a hole and secured a last-gasp 2-1 win over Tunisia in their World Cup opener.

Gareth Southgate could hardly have wished for a better start to this Group G clash in Volgograd, where his side capped a start displaying skill, verve and energy with an early goal from their captain.

But what Southgate’s men lack in experience they make up for in spirit, with Tottenham striker Kane nodding home at the far post to clinch a dramatic late victory which sent their hardy travelling support wild.

WORLD CUP

Mohamed Salah has been declared fit ahead of Egypt’s crunch game against Russia tonight (22:00) and coach Hector Cuper is optimistic his star striker will play. Read our talking points ahead of the game in St. Petersburg.

In the other games today, Colombia kick off their campaign against Russia in Saransk (16:00) and Poland take on Senegal in what should prove to be a pulsating clash (19:00).

FOOTBALL

Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign versatile midfielder Thomas Lemar from Monaco after tying forward Antoine Griezmann and defender Lucas Hernandez to new long-term contracts.

The club announced the deal to sign Lemar and the extended contracts for Griezmann and Hernandez after visiting the France training base at the World Cup.

Griezmann has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club until 2023 and Hernandez will stay at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2024.

Griezmann, who scored in that 2-1 victory, said recently that he intended to remain at Atletico – having been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months.

CRICKET

England are hoping to wrap up one-day international series victory early by opening up an unassailable 3-0 lead over Australia at Trent Bridge (16:00).

Elsewhere, spin rivals Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj were both included in South Africa’s squad for a five-day one-day international series in Sri Lanka starting next month.
