7EMIRATESRUN 2016 – DAY 5

Interested in a race across the country’s seven emirates? The 7EmiratesRun has long-distance running aficionados covered.

Full distance teams of seven runners and relay teams of two to seven runners are asked to trek the ultramarathon’s 490km, or seven emirates in seven consecutive days, by completing a 70km daily average.

While contestants are encouraged to run everyday, there are separate registrations open for individuals interested in single days.

EMIRATES AIRLINE DUBAI RUGBY SEVENS – DAY 1

This rugby tournament is one of the biggest and longest-running competitions on the UAE calendar.

What makes the event such a success isn’t only the rugby, but also the entertainment around it. There will be music concerts, cheerleader performances, and lots of fancy dress for sure.

MEYDAN HORSE RACING

Fun fact: the Meydan Racecourse grandstand is the world’s longest single structure, boasting  an incredible reach of over a mile in length. It is capable of accommodating over 60,000 spectators and that’s exactly what the venue does for the Dubai World Cup each year.

Before that, however, there is a season of racing to enjoy. Dubai is well known for it’s zeal for horse-racing given the success of the world renowned Godolphin stable, and each Thursday night from November onwards, Meydan will be hosting nights of horse racing for fans and newcomers alike to enjoy.

JOURNEY OF HOPE 2016 – DAY 1

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1

Fancy taking part in adventurous cycle across the seven emirates? The Journey of Hope is a three-day charity ride that will have participants cover 250km in order to raise money for the Red Crescent.

Dubai resident Samantha Youseff  created the event, which is now sanctioned by the UAE Cycling Federation. It raised approximately Dhs20,000 for the Red Crescent in its debut edition.

DUBAI UNITY RUN 2016

UAE National Day 2016 will see the inaugural Unity Run descend on Dubai, an event devised to celebrate diversity across the seven emirates.

While the event involves two categories – a timed 3km walk and 7km run – the emphasis is not on the competition but on the need to spread and raise awareness as Dubai bids to establish itself as a disability-friendly city by 2020.

ASICS RUN SERIES – RACE 2

From novice to veteran, young or old, all passionate runners are more than welcome to take part in the ASICS Run Series. The community race will have its participants spoilt for choice as various distances on the closed off roads of Meydan remain at their disposal.

Participants who exceed in their age brackets will respectively acquire points after running the Track Golf Clubhouse loop. The lucky few who edge past their competition are guaranteed an array of prizes.

LIWA FAT BIKE CHALLENGE

The Moreeb dunes are one of the most sought-after off-road destinations in the UAE. Standing 300 metres tall with an estimated 50° slipface, it’s easy to see why this renowned spot in the desert remains the prime location for recreational activities such as sand dragging and quad-biking.

The first-ever Fat Bike Challenge was created to challenge participants, who will first need to climb one of the world’s steepest slopes before being expected to compete with one another in a 12km course that will test their skill and navigational prowess.

UAE SOLIDARITY WALK 2016

Want to stretch your legs on National Day? Look no further. The Solidarity Walk offers health-conscious residents in the UAE with an opportunity to celebrate as the Gulf nation’s welcomes another year of independence.

Participants will be awarded certificates, medals and presented with a selection of refreshments as they complete their 3km fun walk in commemoration of the UAE’s birth 45 years ago.

GIANT DUATHLON SERIES 2016-2017 – RACE 3

Whether you are a beginner or a finely tuned athlete, the Giant Duathlon Series offers a test of endurance.

Each race is run/bike/run and will be open to individuals and teams of 2. Age groups are calculated as of your AGE on race day. If you move age groups half way through the series, your series points will be counted for the age group you were in for your first race of the series.
