Kallis is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders to ever play the game of cricket.

As a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium swing bowler, the South African is the only cricketer in the history of the game to score more than 10,000 runs and take 250 wickets in both one-day and Test match cricket.

He had an average of 55 runs per innings from 166 Tests for the Proteas. Kallis took 292 Test wickets and lies third behind India’s Sachin Tendulkar (15,921) and Australia’s Ricky Ponting (13,378) on the list of all-time run scorers in Test cricket with 13,289 scored from 280 innings in a career spanning between 1995-2013.

Kallis, who turns 41, was named Leading Cricketer in the World in the 2008 Wisden for his performances in 2007, in addition to being the ICC Test Player of the Year and ICC Player of the Year in 2005.

Here’s who else is celebrating their birthday:

1947: Terry Griffiths, Welsh ex-snooker player who became world champion on tournament debut in 1979 (69).

1970: Mehmet Scholl, German former footballer. Won record equaling eight Bundesligas with Bayern Munich (46).

1982: Frederic Michalak, French rugby player who plays for top 14 side Toulon and has 77 caps for Les Bleus (34).

1989: Dan Biggar, Welsh rugby player. Fly-half plays club rugby for the Ospreys and has 48 caps for Wales (27).
