Tourists India had it all to do in their third Test at the Kensington Oval. Going into their second innings trailing by 217 runs, the Indians needed to bat out the final day to claim a draw. Lance Gibbs had other ideas. A devastating combination of spin and precision from Gibbs did the trick for the West Indies.

He removed India’s top-scorer Dilip Sardesai (60), and did more damage, dismissing seven more batsmen in Barbados in an extraordinary innings. Sardesai was just one of four to reach double figures as India were all out for 187, as the hosts completed an innings and 30-run victory. Gibbs finished with figures of 53.3-37-38-8.
