Playing in their first World Cup, Kenya were relishing the chance of coming up against the world’s best in India. And on this day, 20 years, ago, they pulled off one of the greatest upsets by defeating West Indies. After recovering from 81-6 to 166, no one would have given the minnows a chance of winning.

But they proved everyone wrong with a splendid bowling performance. It was never going to be easy with Brian Lara, Shivanrine Chanderpaul, Richie Richardson and Jimmy Adams in the West Indies team. But their batsmen struggled, slipping from 65-6 to 93 all out as Rajab Ali and Maurice Odumbe took three wickets each to complete a memorable 73-run triumph.
