  • To all those out there with a thirst for adventure, travel, hiking and the eagerness to learn how to climb a mountain, Dubai-based adventure travel company Wild Guanabana is offering a trip that might be right up your alley.

Wild Guanabana founder Omar Samra, the youngest Arab and first Egyptian to summit Mount Everest, is guiding an Altitude Trekking 101 trip in the Himalayas from March 7 to March 14 where participants will get a unique experience of learning the basic principles of high-altitude climbing from one of the region’s most-experienced mountaineers.

Samra has not only climbed Mount Everest, but the 34-year-old is just one mountain away from completing his daring quest of climbing the Seven Summits of the world – that is reaching the top of the highest mountain on each of the seven continents.

During the eight-day trip, trekkers will be guided up to the 3,210m Poonhill viewpoint, which lies in the foothills of the Annapurnas in the Himalayas and from where climbers can witness one of the most majestic sunrises in the world and take in views of some of the world’s most beautiful peaks, like the Machapuchhre, Annapurna South, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri.

Samra, who has vast experience trekking and climbing in the area, will be offering tips and tricks to the group throughout the journey.

Following arrival in Kathmandu, a bus ride to Pokhara, and another short drive to Nayapul, the group will begin a trek from Nayapul to Banthanti (2,230m), where they will spend the night.

The next morning the trek continues with occasional views of the peaks giving way to a narrower valley, passing through the Rhododendron forest then eventually reaching the village of Ghorepani, at 2,810m, where they will also find shelter for the night.

The next day will feature a one-hour climb up to the Poon Hill viewpoint at 3,210m where trekkers can bask in the glory of some of the Himalayas’ grandest mountains, before they begin their descent back to Nayapul.

This is a great opportunity for aspiring climbers to learn about high-altitude climbing from the very best, experience sensational views at Poon Hill, soak up Nepal’s ethnic mountain communities, and explore the towns of Kathmandu and Pokhara.

“The thing about this trip that makes it stand out from any other is that people will not only get to trek in the majestic Himalayas and experience its unique culture, but they will also get to learn valuable and fundamental lessons on how to trek efficiently at these altitudes,” Samra told Sport360°. “I believe this is a great opportunity to accelerate one’s learning in a short period of time.”

The trip costs $899 (Dh3,300) exclusive of cost for international and domestic flights. If you’re interested in taking your first step towards high-altitude trekking, then log on to www.wildguanabana.com, call 056 7954954, or email [email protected].
