Jones, who qualified in eighth for the race late on Thursday night, climbed to sixth on lap 29 of the 40-lap race. However, the British youngster crashed out from seventh place with three laps to go and finished 10th overall.

In qualifying, Ethan Ringel had set the pace on Thursday by rewriting the Indy Lights record books when shattering the two-lap qualifying speed of 306kmp (set by Wade Cunningham in 2009) with a new standard of 318kmp.

While Ringel was unable to repeat that feat in the race itself, he finished second behind fellow American Jack Harvey. Another American, Scott Anderson, completed the podium in third place.

In fact, the top five places were locked out the Americans, with EC Enerson and Kylie Kaiser finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

In the standings, Harvey inherits the lead with 192 points while Jones slips to second, 13 points behind. Spencer Pigot is in third, 24 points further back to Harvey.

Races 9-10 will be held from June 12-14 on the Toronto street circuit.
