Jones, who started from second on the grid, slipped up at the start and dropped to fourth on lap one but then moved up to third on the following lap, a position he maintained till the chequered flag.

Earlier in the day, Jones qualified in second on the grid, just 0.1474 seconds off pace setter and race six winner Jack Harvey while Sean Rayhall was further back 0.2547 seconds to qualify in third.

After scorching the tracks in the first three races with back-to-back wins, Jones finished fourth and 11th respectively in the next two rounds and surrendered the championship lead to Spencer Pigot, giving the American a seven-point cushion going into this weekend’s double-header.

Jones, 20, though has every intention now of staying ahead in the series with yet another podium-finishing performance in race seven scheduled for tonight.

The Briton, who has previously shone on the European F3 circuits, shifted focus to the US hoping to one day move up to Indy Car.
