Though the UIM XCAT World Series title has been sewn up, second place is up for grabs as the season ends with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix beginning Wednesday.

Arif Al-Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi, of Victory Team, cannot be caught in the overall standings, but runners-up spot is still to be decided and Team Abu Dhabi 5 are hoping to finish the season in style with a victory on home waters on Friday.

“I hope we will see Team Abu Dhabi at the front,” said team member Rashed Al Tayer, who is joined by Majed Al Mansoori. “We have a good speed. We are fifth in the championship, the weather forecast is perfect and the target is a good result here to try and get the second place.”

The fight for second should be fascinating.

The Gold Coast Australia team will be hoping to steal a march on Swecat Racing, with just eight points separating the two boats.

Dubai 33’s Salem Al Adidi and Eisa Al Ali are fourth, nine points behind the Australians, and Team Abu Dhabi 5 a further six adrift in fifth.

The action gets underway with the official practice session from 15.45 on Wednesday.
