Khaled Al Qubaisi and Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing take debut World Endurance pole at Silverstone

Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing took their maiden pole position in their class during qualifying for the Six Hours of Silverstone – the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

The Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing team, comprising of Khaled Al Qubaisi, David Heinemeier Hansson of Denmark and Klaus Bachler of Austria, had to watch on as FP3 was abandoned because of snow.

Thereafter, driving the Porsche 911 RSR Bachler and Al Qubaisi took to the wheel in turns during the 20-minute qualifying session, with Bachler clocking 2min 14.639sec while Al Qubaisi went 2min 15.566 sec for an average of 2min 15.102 sec to secure their maiden pole position in the AM class for today’s six-hour race.

Al Qubaisi said: “We are very happy with our first pole position in the championship. Everything went well for us in qualifying and the car was terrific despite the dipping temperatures.”
