Lebanese driver Edy Saaiby is hoping for a better show at Yas Marina Circuit after being left frustrated in the opening round.

The 22-year-old was placed seventh in the first race, before being forced to retire after a collision in the second encounter back in October. Since then, Saaiby has spent as much time as possible behind the wheel, competing in the Radical Middle East Cup and hopes he can be rewarded podium finishes in the capital on Saturday.

“It was quite frustrating in the last round to be honest. I had a good first race before being being hit in the second race,” he said. “There was nothing I could do but that’s sport.

“In racing, you need luck and sometimes things happen in all sport so I just got to deal with it. It’s been a long time since the last round. Hopefully these two races will be better.

“It’s important that I start to show my potential. I need to have good results in this round and finish as high as possible.”

Now in his second season, Saaiby is fully aware of the task he faces if he wants to get his hands on the trophy.

“Each race is not going to be the same. Just like last season, the field was strong and this year is equal. There are a lot of strong drivers from different nationalities competing.

“With races lasting just 20 minutes, it will be tense. Driving in a professional race is a lot different to what you drive on the road. You need to know when to overtake, know which turns are coming up as well as keeping focused on what is going on around me.”
