Round 5 looks set to be the most thrilling yet with Skydive Dubai Falcons and Al Nabooda Racing battling it out for the team championship title.

UAE resident Clemens Schmid of Al Nabooda Racing will be hoping to extend his lead at the top of the driver’s championship after he saw his tally almost cut in half by defending champion Zaid Ashkanani when the Kuwaiti claimed back-to-back victories in Doha.

Schmid said: “It has been a really tough series. It’s also been enjoyable but now is the time to stay focused.

“With Zaid six points behind me I need to make the right decisions and ensure I am driving to my best capabilities.”

And Skydive Dubai Falcons will expect to apply pressure at the top as Emirati duo Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum and Saeed Al Mehairi take to their home circuit, the latter currently third in the driver’s standings.

Al Mehairi said: “It’s an exciting time in the competition that is for sure.

“We have a real chance to battle for the team title so it’s an opportunity to cement our status in the pinnacle of regional racing.”
The region’s leading drivers, in identical Porsche 911 GT3 cars, will face 10 laps of the 5.39km Grand Prix Circuit at the Dubai Autodrome with Race 1 on Friday and Race 2 on Saturday.
