New Jersey race back on Bernie Ecclestone’s agenda

It's rumored that the still-born Grand Prix of America which was once provisionally included on the 2014 F1 calendar may be rising from its ashes, with its promoters meeting with Bernie Ecclestone over the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.

Originally planned to take place on a circuit designed by Herman Tilke around the streets of Port Imperial, New Jersey, the event was confirmed in 2013 only to be postponed and then cancelled altogether by Ecclestone when the organizers failed to comply with the terms and conditions of the contract submitted by FOM.

Race promoter and media mogul Leo Hindery Jr. spearheaded the project at the time and even got as far as submitting all the necessary entry fees for inclusion on the 2014 calendar, but long-term financial difficulties linked to his organisation and a lack of investment meant the race never came to fruition even when a 2015 date had been agreed.

According to Motorsport.com, Hindery met with Ecclestone in Montreal last weekend in order to discuss how to revive the New Jersey event, with Formula 1's supremo apparently open to the proposition. "He'd like to see that race happen. We'll have a look and see what we can do for him," Bernie said.
