Nico Rosberg has expressed his concerns at the prospect of there being no German Grand Prix on this year’s Formula One calendar.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone confirmed last week he does not have a contract with either Hockenheim or Nurburgring for the race on July 19.

Over the last few years the race has alternated between the two venues, with Nurburgring to have played host this season, only for financial and ownership issues to have plagued the circuit.

The difficulties resulted in Ecclestone turning to Hockenheim to step into the breach, but as yet nothing has been resolved.

Assessing the situation, Rosberg said: “For me, for as long as I can remember, the German Grand Prix has been legendary.

“Like the British Grand Prix, it is such a fundamental part of the F1 season.

“So it is very disappointing to hear it has not been fixed yet into the calendar, and not just for me, but for all the German Formula One  fans.

“There are so many motor racing fans in Germany, and Germany has such a large representation in the sport with me, Sebastian (Vettel), Mercedes and so on.

“A big part of F1 is Germany, so I hope it works out.”

Since the inception of the F1 world championship in 1950, only three times has a race in Germany failed to take place – 1955, 1960 and 2007.
