F1 driver salaries revealed – but who represents value for money?

The 2014 F1 driver salaries have been revealed and they don't represent value for money when you look at some of the best paid athletes and their current position on the leaderboard.

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel earns a humongous $31.7 million (AED 116m) annual wage from Red Bull whereas his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo only earns a mere $1.1 million (AED 4m), according to Business Book GP2014.

That means Vettel earns 29 times more that Ricciardo.

This is ironic as the young Australian is third on the 2014 leaderboard on 131 points, whilst Vettel is struggling in sixth with 88 points.

It's become a costly procedure for Red Bull when Vettel earns per championship point – $360,000 (AED 1.3m) in fact. In comparison, Ricciardo only earns $8000 (AED 29,000) a point.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkoneni, who is having a torrid season by his standards, earns a monumental $1.17m (AED 4m) per point.

Current leader, Nico Rosberg is the sixth highest paid F1 driver on earns $17.3m (AED 63m) from Mercedes whilst his team-mate- but rival, Lewis Hamilton has the fourth highest salary on $28.8m (AED100m).

Their salaries are bound to rise after this current succesful season were it has turned into a two-horse race.

So on the basis of value-for-money based on wages per championship point, here is how the standings look…
