Another ramping bull could charge at Formula 1 if conditions are right, says Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali.

The former Ferrari team principal who now oversees the destiny of the luxury sports car manufacturer owned by the Volkswagen group, admits that his heart and soul are still very much in Formula 1.

“You are touching a very sensitive part of my heart,” the 51-year-old is quoted by Spanish publications.

“I want to be very honest with you — today we have other priorities and we have to be very focused on them.

“Tomorrow? Motor sport will always be a part of Lamborghini, so if the platform changes then the answer is ‘Why not?'”

Lamborghini supplied engines to various F1 teams between 1989 and 1993, and even made an ill-fated attempt to compete as a constructor in 1991.

A return to Grand Prix racing isn’t in the cards any time soon, but should the sport revive its luster and offer a compelling case financially to be involved, the brand could return to the fray.

“For us, to enter with the level of costs that are necessary, not only to race but to be competitive, it is too far from what we want,” added Domenicali.

“So if we see a change in that specific area, I think it’s worth considering.”
