Lewis Hamilton will be fit to contest this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix despite suffering from a fever.

The newly-crowned triple world champion travelled to Sao Paulo Wednesday – a day later than planned – on medical advice.

Hamilton was forced to cancel a sponsors’ event leading to reports locally that his participation at the penultimate race of the campaign was under threat.

But a Mercedes spokesperson has confirmed Hamilton, who sealed his third world championship at the United States Grand Prix last month, will race on Sunday.

Earlier this week, the 30-year-old said a win in Brazil would be a ‘salute’ to Ayrton Senna. Hamilton has never won at the Interlagos track in eight previous attempts.

He finished second behind team-mate Nico Rosberg last year, while he was vying for the lead with Nico Hulkenberg in his final race with McLaren in 2012 before a race-ending collision.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso feels it’s “unfortunate” the season is ending because McLaren’s recent car upgrades have taken the team in the right direction. McLaren brought in a significant aerodynamic upgrade at Austin and both Alonso and Jenson Button are pleased with Honda’s ‘phase four’ engine. Alonso, therefore, is sad that time is running out.

“In Austin, and definitely in Mexico, the car was going in the right direction,” Alonso was quoted as saying by Autosport.

“Aerodynamically we introduced some improvements in Austin, and the car is delivering what we expected. The engine is also improving every race. The whole package is improving every race. Unfortunately the season is going to end, but we have a positive trend and hopefully this trend will continue over the winter.”
