MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez continued his domination of the circuit as he looks for a record-breaking 13th win of the season in Valencia by going fastest in Saturday morning's third practice session.

The Spaniard, who wrapped up back-to-back world titles in Japan in October, won in Malaysia last time out to equal Australian rider Mick Doohan's mark of 12 victories in 17 races in a season in 1997.

Marquez's best time of 1min 30.950sec was marginally quicker than the pace he set in Friday's two practice sessions with compatriots Pol Espargaro and Jorge Lorenzo the closest to the Honda rider.

As well as a record victory on Sunday, the 21-year-old Marquez and team-mate Dani Pedrosa can also deliver Honda back-to-back team and constructors titles in the season's 18th and final race.
