To mark the end of the Dubai Fitness Championship, Nike Middle East hosted two of the world’s best crossfitters at their recently opened Nike Dubai store.

Mat Fraser and Laura Horvath visited the Dubai Mall store and took part in a Q&A session talking about everything from their fitness journey, motivation, and future goals.

Fraser, dubbed the fittest athlete in the world, is the first place winner for three consecutive years at the CrossFit Games while Horvath captured the hearts and the attention of the CrossFit world by finishing second overall at the Games, making her the breakout athlete of the year.

Speaking on what motivates him to keep getting stronger year by year, Fraser says “I don’t want to be 40 years old and think ‘what if’. When my career is done, I want to hold my head up high and say that’s what I got because that’s what I worked for and what I deserved.”

Having struggled with injury in the past, Fraser has put those dark days behind him to become an icon in the sport.

“When I was 19, I broke my back In two spots and met with multiple surgeons that told me the most you will ever be able to do Is a light jog.Your weight lifting career Is over, you’ll never be able to work out again. When you hear that enough times at 19 when you’re vulnerable, Its tough. I didn’t know what reality would be after surgery so It was tough to cope with. I had my doubts of what I could do In the future.

“Looking at achievements that I want to hit, there Is nothing really specific. As long as I am happy and healthy, I am going to keep doing It.”

As for the 21 year old Hungarian, she is looking to bounce back after a disappointing DFC – but is not letting that cloud what has otherwise been an exceptional year.

She described last week’s competition as a ‘speed bump’, vowing to come back even stronger in 2019.
