Four new categories have been added to this year’s FIT Awards as the event enters it’s fifth year. Fitness scenes don’t get much bigger than the one in Dubai, boasting over 15,000 registered professionals working in the region. As the industry grows and as a way to validate the excellence of professionals in the region, Sport360’s event recognises and rewards those that have made this industry a success across all the health & fitness segments.

Four new categories have been added to the 2018 ceremony, which takes place at the Movenpick, JBR, on 5th December. Finalists will be competing for gongs in the new categories; Best independent facility of the year, Small Specialty/Boutique studio of the Year, Fitness Event of the Year and Best Health Spa of the Year. Now with a total of 20 categories, the FIT Awards 2018 is the biggest event of its kind in the UAE.

In order to engage the fitness community and those that support it, the awards process incorporates a strong social media focus driving the public to vote through an online portal. The winners will be decided by a combination of the public voting results and a judging panel made up of industry experts. The gala awards evening will see over 350 guests made up of health & fitness professionals, industry leaders, officials, sponsors and VIPs.

Archana Das, General Manager Skechers Middle East, the event’s key sponsor, spoke to Sport360 about getting involved in the awards for the first time. “We look for events and organisations that highlight the importance of fitness and are proud to support the Fit Awards and its mission to recognise and reward those that have made the growing industry a success,” she said.

The brand has been capitalising on the growth of the fitness industry in the UAE by increasing their sporting apparel and local initiatives. “For the growing running community, we launched the Skechers Performance Run this year – a series of four runs, which will continue supporting the various fitness initiatives in the region,” added Das. “Additionally, we continue to encourage fitness by sponsoring sport events like UAE Teen Sports and now the FIT Awards.”

The brand is also using new technology to take their running shoes to the next level. “Our newest Skechers Performance technical running shoes have responsive ‘flight gen’ foam, which provides additional cushioning with less weight and more energy return. The result is lighter and faster models ideal for training and competing,” Das told Sport360.
