Get ready to climb, jump and roll through obstacles in the return of the XDubai Spartan Race, designed to bring out the King Leonidas in you.

The pioneer of modern obstacle races, Spartan will once again hit Dubai on Friday, February 26, at the Jebel Ali Racecourse in Al Barsha.

After attracting over 5,000 participants from across the world in its Dubai debut in 2015, Spartan’s brings back its popular obstacles, including the Rope Climb, Rolling Mud, Spear Throw, Slip Wall and Fire Jump.

As intimidating as the course sounds, the Spartan Race is for athletes of all ages and abilities.

Youngsters aged four to 14 can test themselves in the 1km Junior Spartan, while racers with disabilities can take part in Special Spartans.

The Spartan Sprint features a 5km course with 20-plus obstacles, while the more adventurous participants can try their hand at the Spartan Super, consisting of 25-plus obstacles spread across a 13km course.

No matter what distance you run, the goal is to get outdoors and get active.

No catches: Commando crawl your way under barbed wire.

“We have seen first hand how Spartan can change lives and give people the motivation they need to achieve a new level of fitness and wellbeing,” said Rayyan Yacob Agha, MENA managing director, Spartan Race.

“Taking part is an incredible experience and the majority of people catch the ‘Spartan Bug’ after experiencing the race only once and come back time and time again determined to improve.

“Dubai’s desert terrain offers a particularly exciting opportunity for athletes to test their skills in a unique environment and last year’s race attracted a number of elite competitors from Europe and the US.”

If you’re searching for a way to prepare for the race, the Spartan team has you covered with free weekly workouts every Friday at Skydive Dubai from 10:00 to 11:00.

On the day of the race, the Elite heat will start at 07:15 with up to 250 runners going every 15 minutes until 13:00, while the Junior Race will run from 10:00 to noon.

You can also bring the whole family to the event as everyone can enjoy the Festival Area, which will include food, beverages and music.
