The tournament, which will be in a pairs betterball stableford format, will be held at Emirates Golf Club, Faldo course, on Friday, May 22.

Harrison’s Fund is named after Harrison Smith, a young boy who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which deteriorates muscles at a fast rate.

The foundation aims to combat the disease by raising awareness and that’s exactly what the golf competition in Dubai is hoping to accomplish.

“It’s more of an awareness day,” said Duayne De Waal, league manager of Woestyn Boere Hackers Golf Society, who are organising the event.

“You can understand what Duchenne muscular dystrophy is about, how many people does it affect and what it can do. Just know more about it.

“That’s our main goal, to reach as many people as possible and have them know about the foundation as well.

“Basically, you need to make time to make a difference. With the lifestyle people in Dubai live, it’s very hard to make time for someone else and get involved.

“The whole motto behind the day and foundation is to make time to make a difference.”

Following the day of golf will be a light lunch. Players also have a chance to drive away with a BMW 2 Series Active Tourer if they can sink a hole-in-one on the course.

If you don’t have a partner for the better ball competition, don’t worry as you’ll be paired with another single player to make sure everyone can play.

The competition will begin with an 08:00 shotgun start on the day. There are only a few spots remaining so sign up as soon as possible by contacting De Waal at 050 348 5539 or woestynborehackers@gmail.com.

The entry fee is Dh260 for Emirates Golf Club members, Dh485 for Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club members and Dh595 for non members. Included in the fee is golf, lunch and drinks coupons.

Come out to support a worthy cause in Harrison’s Fund and enjoy a day of golf this weekend.
