Yas Links are hosting another competition this month – the Junior Open and there’s still time for promising youngsters to sign up for the annual event.

– UAE shoot to victory at BMW Golf Cup International

Taking place on Sunday, March 29, the competition is open to youths aged 17 years and under, who hold a valid handicap certificate.

The format will be an individual strokeplay with action to commence at 09:00.

It will be the sixth edition of the Open and has been a flagship event on the Yas Links calendar since the club opened in March 2010.

Since then, it’s gone from strength to strength, attracting some of the country’s budding golfers to the UAE capital.

“It’s one of our popular tournaments at Yas Links,” said Carly Tjader, sales and marketing/relationship manager at Yas Links.

“Although it’s not as fully subscribed as the annual Men’s or Ladies Opens that we currently hold, the attendance numbers has consistently grown every year.

“With golf booming in the UAE with the number of courses in the country as well as some of the highprofile tournaments, the youngsters are taking an interest and have become more involved with the game around the country.

“We get new as well as familiar faces every year which is great to see as the Yas Links Junior Open is a perfect way for the children to test themselves.”

Entry fees are Dh100 for Yas Links members, Dh250 for Emirates Golf Federation members, while guests will be charged Dh299.

Included in the fee, is a buffet meal, one round of golf on the Championship Links course as well as use of the practice facilities on the morning of the competition.

Yas Links holds a number of youth clinics, which have proven to be a huge success, and Tjader believes there’s plenty of positives to gain as well as playing in one of the finest golf courses in the UAE.

“The main focus for us is to attract more youth to golf, not just at Yas Links but in the UAE also,” said Tjader.

“The Junior Open is a good way to test their skills where they can compete for prizes on a larger scale against others in the region.

Or, they can enjoy taking part in what will be a fun and social event, where they can make new friends.”

Entries can be made by emailing reception@yaslinks.com or by calling 02 810 7710/53. Registration deadline is Friday, March 27.
