The team of Corey Spring and Paul Spinks became the last winners of this season’s Xerox Corporate Golf Challenge (XCGC), the qualifying rounds of which concluded with the tenth round at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Spring and Spinks combined for a score of 65 and became the last team to be selected from the UAE-based qualifiers for the 36-hole twoday grand final that will be held at Tower Links and Al Hamra golf courses in Ras Al Khaimah in December 2014.

Runners-up Matt Osborne and Michael Harradine of team Harradine Golf were unlucky to settle for second place after they scored 65 points as well, but lost on a countback.

Charles Park and Christopher Rossmeisl of team GAL were third with 68.

Among the various on-course prizes, Harradine, the top amateur in the UAE for last three years, won both Nearest to the Pin, as well as Longest Drive prizes.

Suk Kim’s 303.3-yard scorcher wins him title

Young Suk Kim out-drove 51 participants to win the top prize at Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s Taylormade Longest Drive competition.

Kim was the only participant to hit his drive over 300 yards, managing an impressive 303.3 yards which saw him beat five out of six Abu Dhabi Golf Club professionals.

Joseph Jasienowski narrowly edged out Andy Tyson to win the Men’s A Division with 276.6 yards over Tyson’s 275.9 yards. Joe Van Hooser came closest to Kim’s winning distance with 298.4 yards, which was enough to win the Men’s B Division, with Daniel Giliberto taking second place with 284.3 yards.

Dara Paulsen won the Ladies Division with 235.1 yards, and Sandra Wilson came in second with a distance of 220.9 yards.

Diwali joy for Mani, Nihalani and McDonalds

Gokul Mani, Pavan Nihalani, Ian McDonald and June Mcdonald combined well on the Majlis course to make an array of birdies and win the Midcom Diwali Scramble with a 58.2 tally.

The Diwali Scramble, sponsored by Midcom, was staged for the third successive season and attracted a fabulous turnout of 128 players.

The competition was strong with only 0.4 points separating the top three teams. Stathis Stathis, Haris Michaelides, Naima Maya and Tania Sangani signed for a 58.5 total to take runners-up place. Ishu Rupani, Harish Rupani, Ed Hesson and Eddie Hesson also produced an excellent display with a 58.6.

Haywood and Campbell combine well at Yas

Ian Haywood and Andrew Campbell have won the October edition of the EccoChallenge at Yas Links Abu Dhabi.

Played on a Pairs Betterball format, Haywood and Campbell topped the leaderboard with 43 points, one point better than
second-placed Stephanie Wilson, the new lady captain, and her partner Damien Ward.

And perfectly enough, the new men’s captain, Jim Duggan, and his partner Robert Paige, were third with 40 points. The next edition of ECCO Challenge – Individual Stableford will be played on November 28.
