With the 27th edition of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic less than a month away, ticket sales have picked up pace ahead of the oldest golf tournament in the Middle East.
The European Tour event gets underway at Emirates Golf Club from February 4 to 7 and ‘golf in DUBAi’, promoters and organisers at the event, have urged the fans to buy tickets online by visiting the tournament web sites — www.dubaidesertclassic.com or www.golfindubai.org — to avoid any last-minute rush.
Daily tickets for the four-day main competition are priced at Dh175. A season pass, which provides access all week, including practice days and Pro Am day, is available for Dh675.
Members of Golf Citizen, the golf reservation website launched by golf in DUBAi in 2011, have been offered a special 10 per cent discount on tickets. Golfers from around the world can register as a ‘Golf Citizen’ for free and buy their tickets online.
All those aged 18 and under will be allowed free entry to the course when accompanied by an adult who is holding a valid ticket for the day.
Griffiths and Broadhead take charge at Yas Links

The January Audi Medal was the first event of the new year for members of Yas Links and it was Daniel Griffiths and Jon Broadhead who earned the bragging rights by winning their respective categories.
Griffiths won the first place of Category A (Handicap 0-12) with a respectable net 71. Junior member Jonathan Selvaraj, secured the runner-up spot with net 73.
Category B (Handicap 13-28) saw a close fight between the Broadhead couple, with Jon taking the top prize ahead of his wife Erica on a countback after both finished with net 70 each.
Alastair Crombie was the Best Gross winner with his round of 76.
Next month’s Audi Medal will be held on Friday, February 5.
Learn the golf rules with PGA referee Snoddy
Abu Dhabi Golf Club will be hosting a ‘Rules of Golf Evening’ with Andrew Snoddy, a PGA referee, tomorrow (Thursday) evening.
The two-hour programme with the man who has served as a referee in several big events, including the PGA Championship and the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, starts at 5pm.
The Rules of Golf, which have expanded to include several situations on the golf course, can be somewhat difficult to understand, but there is no denying that a good knowledge can also be used to exploit them in your favour.
The session with Snoddy will include a presentation, practicals on the course and live music and barbeque at the Falcon Terrace.
