Tiger Woods put together a second successive impressive round of golf at the Wyndham Championship to move into a share of the lead for the first time in over two years.

The former world No 1, who has slipped to No 286 at the beginning of this week after struggling with injury and swing change, added a five-under par 66 to his 65 to be 11-under par at the halfway stage.

Woods, who started the day with a three-putt bogey, made an eagle on the par-5 15th hole, where he drained a 10-footer putt after a solid 4-iron second shot from 230 yards. He had earlier made five birdies and two bogies.

Woods was tied with American Tom Hoge and one ahead of the resurgent American Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III (66). A victory will help him qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which start next week.

Woods confirmed his participation in Greensboro at the last possible minute, forcing organisers to print 49,000 extra tickets for the week.

It is believed an extra 16,000 tickets were brought by the fans for the first two days, and the fans were treated to a vintage Tiger show. It was the first time Woods led at the halfway stage since the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
