The 2014 Ryder Cup is done and dusted as Europe retained the trophy with a comfortable five-point margin.

Here are a few reactions from the players who took part…

“If you have to write a movie script like we did it two years ago, I’d win like we did in Medinah. But for the sake of a lot of people’s hearts, we’d rather do it this way.” – Jose Maria Olazabal

“I took a pill for my headache before I got out because I know from the last two days it’s going to get very loud out there. But I must say, there’s so much support, it’s crazy. Every single hole you get goosebumps.” – Martin Kaymer

“I really wanted to win my singles match today, or at least get a half. Stings to miss a four-footer on the last and lose the match, but the important thing is we won the Ryder Cup.” – Henrik Stenson

“Couldn’t be better. First tee today, I’ll remember it as long as I live…just unbelievable. It’s just been great and it’s been an awesome experience for me.” – Stephen Gallacher

“This has been a great Ryder Cup in the sense that people here in Scotland have treated us very well.” – Phil Mickelson

“The team spirit this week has been amazing. We knew we were going up against a strong US team. Paul had a plan and stuck to his plan and the boys have come through today and executed nicely.” – Ian Poulter

“We always think we have an answer and we’re going to move forward. We’ve obviously struggled. The foursomes was a surprise to me.” – Jim Furyk

“I thought that I could really fire up the team and get them going just because I’m a fiery kind of guy. At the end of the day, it just wasn’t enough and we didn’t get the job done.” – Patrick Reed
