  • Phil Lynagh and Martin Lambert won the 14th edition of the Xerox Corporate Golf Challenge Grand Finale, regarded as the biggest corporate golf event in the Middle East.

Apart from the trophy, the duo also won an all-expense paid trip to this year’s Open Championship, which will be played at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s in July.

More than 50 teams (100 players) competed at the grand finale at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai recently, but none could match the superb net score of 63 put up by Lynagh and Lambert.

Penti Tahvanainen and Stephen Jones were runners-up with a net score of 71, narrowly edging out Nadir Mir Mohammadi and Ayaz Afridi in a countback after they also posted the same score.

During the course of the tournament, Eric Link, Maura Duggan, Paul Bryne and Colin McGlone all participated and won in ‘The Longest Drive and the Nearest Pin’, which was sponsored by ECCO.

Andrew Hurt, General Manager of Xerox Emirates, said: “I think it was a fabulous afternoon of golf and a great challenge for the participants because of the way the course was set up and the pins were placed.

“For us, the greatest test of the popularity of the event is how many of these players want to come back and play next year, and already we have had so many of them inquiring about our plans for the next year.”

The Xerox Corporate Golf Challenge, which was played as 10 qualifying events over six different countries in the Middle East, was managed by Troon Golf.
