Titled as ‘Duplays Wild Nets’, the eight-week league will run from April 14 to June 2 with all matches at the IPIC Arena (formerly the FGB Arena) at Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.

Teams who register before next Tuesday (March 31) will pay the Dh2,700 entry fee otherwise they will be charged Dh3,000.

As the UAE’s largest sport and social club with over 5,000 members, Duplays knows a thing or two about sport. Their portfolio includes football, cricket and badminton, which attracts big numbers and volleyball is no different.

“Since Duplays was launched in the UAE we have started the volleyball leagues and it’s been a huge success,” said Salman Raisi, assistant operations manager at Duplays.

“Duplays have both indoor and outdoor leagues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and every time we launch a new season, many teams sign up. Although there are some close matches, the players have a lot of fun and along with the organisation, is one of the reasons why it’s been popular.”

Whether you’re an experienced player or a beginner, it’s open to people of all abilities.

“Volleyball isn’t a widely popular sport around the world,” said Raisi. “People may feel reluctant to give it a go. But this is a perfect chance to get involved because it’s a great team sport and most importantly it’s a great form of exercise.”

Matches will be played between 20:00 and 22:00, with each side playing two games per week. Teams will play round-robin matches for the first seven weeks, while play-offs in the eighth week will determine the winners.

Players must be 18 years of age and above while there must be no more than eight per squad. During all matches at least one female from each side must be on court.

With less than a month to go, Raisi has urged people not to miss out on taking part.

“It’s a great chance to give volleyball a try. Whether you win or lose, the participation matters and we are sure you will go home with a big smile,” he said.
