The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay might be a few months away but you and your colleagues can start your preparations now with registrations open.
More than 1,000 runners from different organisations are expected to descend on the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC) for the third edition on February 7.
Companies will battle it out for the number one spot, with employees making their way around the unique one-mile (1.6km) route by the iconic DIFC gate building.
Each team will be comprised of 10 runners, with each participant running one lap of the course before passing the baton to the next member. The side with the fastest cumulative time for 10 one-mile laps will be crowned champions.
While all teams will be striving for victory, team-bonding and building new contacts are just some of the core tenets of the event.
Since its inception in London in 2007, the event has gone from strength to strength with San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Tokyo among the cities to have hosted a race.
So far, 27 races have been held across the globe with runners completing 25,250 miles – the equivalent of circumnavigating the earth.
Following on from the success of last year’s edition, Alya Al Zarouni, senior vice president of operations at DIFC Authority, is confident this year’s will be no different.
“This is the third time we are the venue partner for the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay and each year the event gets bigger and better, with fiercer competition among participating companies,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase DIFC as more than a top 10 global financial centre – the centre is widely recognised as a leading destination for business and lifestyle.
“We are delighted to be involved in this international event once more and we look forward to seeing Dubai’s professionals on the course.”
Once the relay is finished, the fun continues as participants, including friends and family, can enjoy the after-event party with live music, food, beverages and entertainment.
